How neurotoxins work.
Expression lines form as facial muscles repeatedly contract when you frown, smile or raise your eyebrows. Botox®, Daxxify® and Jeuveau® are prescription botulinum toxin type A treatments that temporarily reduce signals from nerves to selected muscles. With less muscle contraction, the overlying expression lines can look softer.
These treatments do not add volume like filler. Your provider selects the product, dose and injection sites based on your facial movement, goals and medical assessment. The effect gradually wears off as muscle activity returns.

Botox temporarily reduces activity in selected muscles to soften expression lines. Its cosmetic approvals include moderate to severe frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet and platysma bands in adults. Your treatment areas are selected individually.

- As early as 24–48 hours.
- When to assess the full result
- The manufacturer describes full results at 30 days. Early changes continue to develop.
- How long results last
- Up to 4 months; individual duration varies.

Daxxify®
DaxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm
Daxxify uses botulinum toxin type A in a peptide-containing formulation to temporarily reduce muscle activity. Its cosmetic approval is for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. It is an option to discuss when duration is an important consideration.
- When effects begin
- As early as 1 day, typically within 2 days.
- When to assess the full result
- Results develop beyond the first changes; clinical studies assessed the main response at 4 weeks.
- How long results last
- Around 6 months in clinical studies: more than half of participants had no or mild frown lines at 6 months.
Six months is not guaranteed. These findings relate to the studied frown-line treatment and dose.

Jeuveau®
PrabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs
Jeuveau temporarily reduces the muscle activity responsible for frown lines between the eyebrows. It is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines in adults. Your provider can discuss how it fits your treatment goals.
- When effects begin
- As early as 2 days; about half of study participants showed improvement by then.
- When to assess the full result
- Results continue developing. The manufacturer reports that most study participants achieved its full-result measure by day 30.
- How long results last
- Up to 4 months; individual duration varies.

These timelines come from each manufacturer’s information, not a direct comparison study. Onset and duration vary with the product, dose, treatment area and individual response. Units are not interchangeable between brands. Uses outside a product’s approved areas may be off-label and require an individualized medical assessment.

Your provider will tell you when to return for a review. An early check-in is different from reaching the final result, and any additional treatment should be based on assessment rather than the first few days of changes.

Treatment is not appropriate with an infection at the planned injection site or a relevant allergy. Side effects can include bruising, headache, eyelid drooping or unwanted weakness.
